Tobacco has been deeply rooted in the economic framework of the United States for nearly 400 years. The commerce in tobacco has made a significant contribution to this country's continual improvement in our standard of living and quality of life. As a result of the health effects of tobacco, this once mighty economic engine of the United States is slowly losing its steam. We must not forget its honorable past. Now is the time to respect its heritage.
